Back-to-School Prayer Guide for Parents: Praying Over Your Kids During the First Week of School (Day Four)

Day 4: Pray for your child’s growth as they take important steps toward independence and maturity.

Praying for Growth

Scripture: “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” – Proverbs 22:6

Prayer Points:

  • Pray for your child’s growth—spiritually, socially, mentally, and emotionally—as they take greater steps towards independence each year.
  • Pray that God would help them understand the weight of their actions, realizing that every choice has a consequence.
  • Pray for the wisdom to nurture an environment in which your children can grow while still offering them guidance as they face new milestones.

Practical Tip: Begin to offer more and more age-appropriate choices to your children, and allow them to sit in the results of those decisions, positive or negative.

Bonus Blessing: Speak This Over Your Child Every Day Before School

“May God bless you, protect you, and make His face to shine upon you. May you walk in blessing and favor, guided by the Holy Spirit. You are loved, valued, and a child of God. You are made in the image of Christ and He is always with you.”
